Local News: Oxbow Mine to Generate Electricity from Methane

Oxbow’s Elk Creek mine is planning to start capturing the methane gas–also known as natural gas–produced during mining and convert it to energy. The project, led by Vessels Coal Gas in cooperation with Gunnison Energy Corporation and Oxbow Mining, is slated to get underway this summer. KVNF’s Ariana Brocious reports.

A Republican bill to ban local governments from regulating the oil and gas industry failed in a senate committee on a 4 to 1 vote. The measure was introduced after several communities, mostly along the Front Range, issued temporary moratoriums on hydraulic fracturing. KVNF’s state capitol reporter Bente Birkeland has more from the state capitol.

Local News: US Justice Dept. Charges GEC and SG Interests with Antitrust Violations

On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that it had reached a settlement with Gunnison Energy Corporation and SG Interests for antitrust and false claims violations related to natural gas leases sold at a Bureau of Land Management auction. KVNF’s Ariana Brocious has this report.
