Mail ballots went out a week ago, and the Delta County Courthouse is a-bustle with early voters, heading into election day on November 6th. KVNF’s Marty Durlin has more.

Tribute albums are a dicey thing and usually don’t work. “Beat the Retreat” (tribute to Richard Thompson) & “Timeless: A Tribute to Hank Williams” come to mind as ones that really work. This one is equally well done.

Republican Secretary of State Scott Gessler is defending himself against charges that he misused public money and gave himself an end of year bonus. An independent ethics commission and the Denver District Attorney’s office are both deciding whether or not to investigate the claims. Bente (BEN tuh) Birkeland has more from the state capitol.

Most Colorado voters are expected to caste their ballots before election day this November 6th. Early voting begins today and mail ballots have already been sent out across the state. Bente Birkeland examines the trend of early voting.

Mark it down, guys: October 19th, the day KVNF started getting in Christmas albums. Not to worry, the airwaves won't be jingling for at least another month, I imagine. But with NPR's piece, New Holiday Songs: A Smart Career Move, we can ponder just why it is so attractive for every man, woman and child with access to a mic (read: every man, woman, and child) to record a bit of their own xmas cheer.

Area runners made an impressive showing at Wednesday's Western Slope regional cross country races at Confluence Park in Delta. KVNF’s Tamie Meck has this report.

In the two years that it’s been open, Delta County’s Homeless Shelter, the Abraham Connection, has seen local use increase dramatically. The shelter provides emergency, overnight winter housing to homeless families, women and men in Delta County from November 1st through April 30th. The increased need is driving the shelter board and volunteers to purchase their own building in hopes of expanding the services they offer the community.
