Melodians at the Paradise Theater, March 14th

KVNF Community Radio presents a Roots Reggae and Rocksteady Revival featuring the incredible Melodians at the Paradise Theater in Paonia on Saturday, March 14th, at 8 PM.  The Melodians are one of Jamaica's greatest Rocksteady groups, cutting a series of classic singles during the late '60s and early '70s that included the internationally famed "Rivers of Babylon" and "Sweet Sensation."

A successor of ska and a precursor to reggae, Rocksteady was performed by Jamaican vocal harmony groups in the mid 60s. During that time the driving rhythms of ska were abandoned in favor of the slower, more soulful Rocksteady.  This style uses some of the musical elements of R&B, jazz, ska, African and Latin American drumming, and other genres.

This is a rare opportunity to experience an historic and significant Rocksteady and Roots Reggae trio in an intimate setting. The Melodians will be performing with the Yellow Wall Dub Squad. Tickets available at KVNF and online at Brown Paper Tickets. Call KVNF at 527-4866 for more information.
