A safety closure is in place for a bridge on US Highway 50 located west of Gunnison. The Colorado Department of Transportation is closing the bridge at the urging of the Federal Highway Administration and state bridge engineering experts due to the findings of an ongoing safety inspection, which identified anomalies in the bridge on Thursday, April 18.

Hotchkiss Town Attorney Bo Nerlin is working on changes to the town’s parking ordinances, reports the Delta County Independent. Nerlin brought up the two-hour limit for parking on Bridge Street between the hours of 8am and 5pm. He also pointed out illegal parking on Bridge Street including trailers, ATVs and go-karts and suggested doubling fees for parking violations.

the Delta County Sheriff's Office is advising the community about a phone scam in the area. They say citizens are receiving calls from someone pretending to be a Deputy or Sergeant stating they missed a jury summons and have a warrant for their arrest. Citizens are then told to come to the Sheriff's Office with a card to pay to squash the warrant.

The town of Paonia is looking to hire four full-time staff members and one part-time staff member, including one police officer and one public works member, to replace staff members who are leaving, reports the Delta County Independent.
