Residents in Paonia look to Mount Lamborn every year to gauge whether there will be enough irrigation water in the summer. But with a winter that never came and the earliest, driest spring on record, residents are preparing for drought. Yet 2011 saw record snow and rain? iSeeChange has been talking to citizens and scientists about what's driving extreme weather in the Western Slope and what declining irrigation water means for farmers, ranchers, and residents.

The Delta county school district is facing tough challenges this year: A budget shortfall, a controversial district-wide effort to design and implement a new curriculum, new standardized testing, and a search for a new superintendent. Delta county school board president, Tom Mingen, and Director of Curriculum, Connie Vincent, talk about these issues.


iSeeChange: A Climate Connection for Breakfast

What happens when a family of ranchers and coal miners sit down for breakfast with a climate scientist from NASA, to talk about global warming and drought? For iSeeChange and KVNF, Julia Kumari Drapkin found out.

Another hauntingly soft and beautiful turn through the painful past of Mike Hadreas. This time the melodies aren't hung so gauntly on the notes of a singular piano, as with Learning, but fleshed out with a little more instrumentation and collaboration. Back deals with many of the same issues as Learning, but with a tinge of nourishment added to the pallor.

Paonia resident Thea Deley is debuting her one-woman show, “One Nation Divided Over God: One Woman’s Journey from Believer to Blasphemer” (now titled, "Jesus Loves You! (but hates me)" at the Paradise Theater in Paonia on October 14th. KVNF’s Ariana Brocious talked to Deley about the inspiration for the show, and her personal experiences with religion.
