Event Celebrates Grand Mesa’s Moose Population

The moose population on the Grand Mesa is growing. The area is home to more than 400 of the large animals. This Saturday, July 25 is the sixth annual Grand Mesa Moose Day event. 

It features viewing opportunities and safety tips, informational hikes and activities for kids. It starts at 10 a.m. and goes until 3 p.m. at the Forest Service Visitor Center atop the mesa.

KVNF's Laura Palmisano to Brad Petch, a senior wildlife biologist with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, to learn more about moose in the state. 

Laura joined KVNF in 2014. She was the news director for two years and now works as a freelance reporter covering Colorado's Western Slope. Laura is an award-winning journalist with work recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists, Colorado Broadcasters Association, and RTDNA. In 2015, she was a fellow for the Institute for Justice & Journalism. Her fellowship project, a three-part series on the Karen refugee community in Delta, Colorado, received a regional Edward R. Murrow Award.
