Local Motion: New Ideas

The Hive, working
Laura Palmisano
/
KVNF

On this show we’re looking at new ideas about new beginnings.  Leaving a job for a new career, starting with a fresh beginning, or just expanding out in new ways, transitioning can be challenging.  There’s not always a roadmap of how to make it in the world, but there are some people who can help.

We’ll hear from three people who run three different projects that hope to help people and businesses grow, armed with a good supply of fresh ideas themselves.

KVNF's Jake Ryan speaks with Chris Yates, the founder of The Hive, a co-working space in rural Colorado. Then, KVNF's Laura Palmisano talks to Russell Evans the director of Transition Lab, an education alternative in Montrose. The episode wraps up with a conversation with Craig Hollabaugh of the Montrose Makerspace.

Laura joined KVNF in 2014. She was the news director for two years and now works as a freelance reporter covering Colorado's Western Slope. Laura is an award-winning journalist with work recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists, Colorado Broadcasters Association, and RTDNA. In 2015, she was a fellow for the Institute for Justice & Journalism. Her fellowship project, a three-part series on the Karen refugee community in Delta, Colorado, received a regional Edward R. Murrow Award.
