Both the leaves and I are moved by unseen forces - naturally.
This autumn I have missed the mountains of Colorado. Here, in northeastern Oklahoma, I've been entranced with leaves and birds. I've also listened to the winds, surging like an unseen river over the land. This unseen force shapes the land, just as unseen forces shape my world. What would happen if I let go of control? Would I leave my children, rob a bank? Chogyal Rinpoche suggests compassion, "goodness," arises without trying. Compassion is part of our nature, as natural as the wind swirling the leaves on the curb, requiring no control or practice.
