For every miner, there’s a family – and in the best cases, the family offers a support system that allows the miner to go into the dark to work various shifts under sometimes dangerous conditions, sleep during the day, adapt to various clocks and take it in stride when there’s a disruption of work or routine.

KVNF’s Marty Durlin spoke to someone who’s managed it for decades.
