What is the motor and fuel for three types of power: power over, power with, and imminence?
My partner Jeff recently declared there were two types of power: power over someone and shared power. I considered what fueled the motors of power-over and power-with relationships and recognized a third type of power: imminence, a power that emanates from within. The Great Peace March for Global Nuclear Disarmament in 1986 was a fabulous examples of shared power, populated with members motivated by imminent power. Each person held his or her vision and joined the group based on resonance rather than coercion or obligation.
