Two Western Slope organizations have been awarded grants to promote fair access to health care.

LiveWell Montrose Olathe received $200,000 from Colorado Trust, a health foundation, and Tri-County Health Network got $180,000.

Tera Wick with LiveWell Montrose Olathe explains how her organization will use the funds.

“The overarching plan is to create a group called Health Equity Advocacy Team," she says. "The shorthand is HEAT. The mission of HEAT is to grow the capacity of the people and agencies to organize and advocate for health equity in Montrose County."

Wick says LiveWell also plans to use the money to collect data on health disparities in Montrose County.

She says the advocacy team will use the data to come up with ideas on how to improve health care in the community.

In total, Colorado Trust gave 17 organizations across the state grants to advance health equity.
