"Juan Rivera's Colorado, 1765: The First Descriptions of Colorado and the Ute Indians"
Ethnohistorian and Registered Professional Archeologist Steven Baker presents the story of Juan Rivera and the first Spanish company to travel to the Ute territories of Southwestern Colorado in 1765 in a quest to find silver, the Colorado River, and the mysterious bearded men of Teguayo. In his seminal book, Baker is the first scholar to examine extensively Rivera's two journeys from New Mexico to present-day Delta, Colorado, a decade before the Dominguez-Escalante expedition.
