Is my goal extending life, or working with the cycles of life?Recently I read an editorial by one of the staff of Life Extension magazine, bemoaning the lack of wealthy donors willing to sponsor life extension research. I thought of Bill and Linda Gates and how they had decided to invest part of their fortune in addressing AIDS in Africa. With a planet filled with hunger, thirst and disease, I'd much rather see a fortune devoted to eradicating AIDS than supporting Beverly Hills babes up late at night worrying about their belly fat. The anti-aging industry is gaining momentum as the Baby Boomers reach maturity. What are we running from? None of us will get out of here alive. At best, I can shape this clay I live in with gratitude and then bequeath it to those who follow me. I can surrender my body to the soil, allowing it to rise again as foxglove and oak leaf, cardinal and goldfinch chorus. Likely I will be cremated and ask that my remains be planted in a mountain stream so that I can enjoy the entire ride to the sea.
