The New Mexico privet is a tall handsome shrub. It thrives in dry and exposed areas. New Mexico Privet is related to Olive trees. It’s native to the valleys of southwestern Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona. It has a beige-colored bark reminiscent of aspen and reaches 17’ at maturity. Female plants produce black berries that are eaten by birds. The New Mexico privet is a moderate to fast grower in any soil and is a great addition to a xeriscape landscape. Being a shrub, New Mexico Privet always has multiple stems.
