Blue Sage 2023 Concert Series: Andrew Krimm, Erin Patterson, & Madoka Asari
Executive Director, Andrew Krimm will be joined by Erin Patterson, cello and Madoka Asari, piano for an afternoon of chamber music. Andrew is also excited to present his newly acquired 242 year-old instrument made in 1780 by William Forster. The Forster viola is not only a historical artifact and a work of art in terms of craftsmanship, but has the most beautiful and unique quality of tone with both a rich low range and a dazzling higher register.
Andrew Krimm began studying viola at the age of 7 in Dallas, Texas. In 2006, he began Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Colorado Boulder, studying with Erika Eckert and Geraldine Walther. In 2011, Mr. Krimm returned to Dallas to pursue a Performer’s Diploma at Southern Methodist University where he studied with Ellen Rose. While in attendance, Andrew co-founded the award-winning string quartet, Altius Quartet. During their residency at SMU, Altius Quartet won first prize at the Coltman Chamber Music Competition, first prize at the Plowman Chamber Music Competition, and was awarded the Silver Medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.
Currently based in Boulder, Colorado, cellist Erin Patterson brings intentionality to music making as a performer, mentor, and educator. Her career has led her across the US, Canada, and Europe.
Erin has been a member of the Grammy nominated, all cello ensemble Uccello, performs regularly with both the Boulder Philharmonic, and serves as the principal cellist of the Boulder Symphony.
Erin values education as one of the most important facets of her career. She is a Suzuki cello teacher and maintains an active studio in the Denver-Boulder area. With Altius, she has brought music to schools, prisons, retirement homes, cafes, yoga studios, and sensory friendly communities.
Japanese pianist Madoka Asari is a highly sought after collaborator who has performed in the U.S.A., Japan, France, and the Czech Republic.
Madoka has served on faculty of the Collaborative Piano department at Colorado State University, as an interim staff pianist at University of Colorado at Boulder, and as an Associate Instructor of Music Theory at Indiana University Bloomington. She is currently a pianist for Colorado Children’s Chorale and staff pianist at Lamont School of Music
Madoka has received fellowships from the Music Academy of the West and the Aspen Music Festival and School, and holds a Master of Music degree from Indiana University and Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Denver. Her teachers and coaches have included Steven Mayer, Evelyne Brancart, Shigeo Neriki, Rita Sloan and Jonathan Feldman.
