Spencer Mahaffey Lightfoot
Growing up with both parents being painters, it would have been hard for me to avoid being an artist. I received a BA in Art from Arizona State, but most of my learning and inspiration has come from the world around me - colors, nature and for this new series, the people in my life. I have always worked in watercolor in the past, painting flowers, landscapes and abstracted designs. Last year that changed, a new career as a school counselor meant that I was working with people in a very personal, sometimes awkwardly close way and my work unexpectedly changed to reflect just that. I want to say a huge thank you to all of the friends, family in students who agreed to be my subjects and to be part of this new painting adventure. This is the first time I am exhibiting these works and I am excited to see the reaction, each one has been an absolute joy to paint and I look forward to continuing the process for many years to come.
