Visit the Delta Library to view art by Heidl Hasenauer. Hasenauer is a Colorado based artist who was technically trained in 3D sculptural arts. Her desire to create quickly and with little to no plan led her away from long-drawn out techniques and toward fast drying acrylic paint. The focus of this series is based on understanding the effects of experience and phenomena on the human psyche. This art exhibit will be on display at the Delta Library until July 27. For more information, visit deltalibraries.org.
The Creamery will be hosting a plant sale on Sat May 18 to raise funds to begin renovations in the green space where the farmer's market is held. Perennial plants are being donated by the Delta garden club and local gardeners as well as annual flowers and veggie starts. Donations are welcome and being accepted starting at 8 AM. Come early for best selections.
Where can you find community history, sidesplitting improv, creative writing and captivating artistry all at once? At the Blue Sage’s StoryShare! We begin by honoring and preserving our roots through video recordings of the personal stories of long-time families in the North Fork Valley. Then we invite writers and artists to interpret those stories with their own creative flair.
These efforts culminate in a packed-house event where you, and the Boulder improv group Playback Theatre, meet the families, hear the stories, and see the art. Then the performing artists provide their own wild, hilarious, moving take on what they’ve witnessed. It is an event like no other.
This year this event is free and admittance will be on a first come first served basis. Thank you!

Burro racing is a great sport that begun with some of Colorado’s 19th-century miners. Hardy characters used burros to carry mining tools and supplies through the rugged Colorado terrain as they prospected for valuable minerals & ore. Since the burros were carrying a full load, the miners had to walk, leading the animal with a rope. Legend has it that two miners found gold in the same location and raced each other back to town to be the first to stake a claim to the find. Neither could ride their animal because of its load, so one of the basic rules of burro racing was established.
The Town of Naturita and the surrounding area have a longstanding, rich history in mining. And although this is the inaugural year for the Naturita Pack Burro Race, there are plans for it to become an annual event and opportunity for locals to celebrate our mining roots. Race director, Nancy Ross says, “this is an event that suits our community and pays homage to our heritage, we’re looking forward to a fun event that will continue into the future”. Naturita will be the first pack burro race of the season in Colorado and at this time is the only one scheduled on the western slope of Colorado.
