Sufjan Stevens // Silver & Gold: Songs for Christmas, Vols. 6-10

Released 11.13.12 Asthmatic Kitty

Mark it down, guys: October 19th, the day KVNF started getting in Christmas albums. Not to worry, the airwaves won't be jingling for at least another month, I imagine. But with NPR's piece, New Holiday Songs: A Smart Career Move, we can ponder just why it is so attractive for every man, woman and child with access to a mic (read: every man, woman, and child) to record a bit of their own xmas cheer.

One such artist has emerged as a niche, Lisa-Frank style Christmas group(ie). Sufjan Stevens announced his second Christmas monster compilation, Silver & Gold: Songs for Christmas, Vols. 6-10, that picks up on the more fantastical side of where 2006's Songs For Christmas left off. The release track, Christmas Unicorn, promises shenanigans that would make attending his Christmas tour, Surfjohn Stevens Christmas Sing-A-Long Tour: Seasonal Affective Disorder Yuletide Disaster Pageant On Ice, a journey into bubble gum holiday weirdom that would be well worth it.

PS. Venues for the tour are not ice-skating rinks. So, be careful before you bring your blades into a crowd.
