Montrose Shooting Victim Cited for False Information to Authorities

The victim of a shooting in Montrose has been issued a citation for false reporting to authorities.

The shooting took place  in the 3000 block of Ravens Crest on Tuesday. According to the Montrose Daily Press, a 54-year old woman named Cindy Booth told authorities that she had been shot by an intruder who broke into the home she shares with a Montrose police officer and his family. According to Booth's story, an intruder forced her from a bedroom to another room in the house, and then shot her in the arm with a handgun.

Montrose Police Commander Gene Lillard told KVNF that statements made by Booth when she was brought in for questioning did not match up with evidence collected at the scene. Booth was then issued at citation for false reporting to authorities - a Class 3 Misdemeanor.

Lillard said the department has a "pretty good idea" of what actually took place, and that the shooting was either accidental or self-inflicted, but that no other details are being released at this time. Neither the police officer who lives in the home with Booth nor his family are suspects in the case.
