Red Mountain Pass between Ouray and Silverton was closed for most of Thursday while emergency personnel recovered an SUV along with the body of a missing man.

Officials say the body of Jin Junge of Denmark was recovered along with a rented white Cadillac Escalade that fell more than 400 below the highway.

Junge was reported missing by family members on Feb. 4.

The Ouray County Sheriff’s Office says GPS equipment installed in the rental vehicle helped them find it.

Officials say it took several days to locate the SUV  that went over the the pass in an area known as Sullivan’s Gulch, about two miles south of Ouray.

The vehicle was lodged in the stream bed of the Uncompahgre River where it was found by a search and rescue team along with the body of Junge.

Jun Junge, the brother of Jin, tells the Montrose Daily Press that he believes Jin, a Danish military veteran who suffered from depression, might have committed suicide.

On Wednesday Red Mountain Pass was also closed for part of the day while emergency crews worked to remove the vehicle using a crane but that effort failed causing a second day of road closures.
