Ever thank a plant breeder for your garden bounty? Luther Burbank (1849-1926) was a legendary horticulturist who developed more than 800 new plant varieties. We enjoy Shasta daisies, Santa Rosa plums, freestone peaches and the famous Burbank russet potatoes- all thanks to his work. Luther Burbank even bred a spineless cactus for cattle feed and introduced the plumcot (a plum-apricot hybrid). Luther Burbank was dubbed the “Wizard of Santa Rosa,” and many of his curious crosses still bloom and bear fruit today
