Growing Home - Methuselah

Gardeners are patient, but 2,000 years is next level. In 2005, scientists in Israel sprouted a 2,000-year-old date palm seed recovered from King Herod’s fortress. They nicknamed the seedling “Methuselah” after the biblical long-lifer. This ancient seed grew into a living date palm, making it the oldest known seed to germinate with human help. A time-traveling tree of sorts, carrying genetics from the Roman Empire into our era – proof that June planting can sometimes wait a millennium or two!
