The last USDA Ag Census in 2017 showed that over 1,000 Colorado farms offered agritourism and recreational services, totaling nearly $64 million in farm income.

FEATURE: On today’s KVNF Farm Friday, agritourism and its various aspects continue to grow as an economic opportunity for ag producers and rural communities, increasing data is forthcoming to better understand and recognize trends that can provide both guidance and benefit. Rod Bain looks at some recent trends in agritourism in this edition of “Agriculture USA”.

NEWS: On today’s news, we highlight the North Fork Valley where the Blue Sage Center for the Arts in Paonia has been awarded a $28,000 grant to develop a Sage Alley, its new community space. The space will expand its offerings for performances, workshops and public gatherings. The grant is part of the T-Mobile Hometown Grants initiative, which supports small towns with populations under 50,000. The Blue Sage Center was selected from nearly 1,000 applicants nationwide as one of 25 recipients for this quarter.

The North Fork EMS, located in Hotchkiss, is offering residents free gun safety equipment, including rifle safes, handgun safes, ammunition storage boxes, and trigger locks, through an anonymous drive-up service. The North Fork EMS will distribute the supplies at 110 E. Hotchkiss Ave. on Saturday, June 28 at 9 a.m., Sunday, July 13 at 12 p.m. and Saturday, July 26 at 9 a.m. The equipment was purchased via a grant from the Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program.

The Grand Opening of the Crawford Senior Center recently took place. According to the Delta County Independent, former Crawford Mayor Wanda Goforth said it was her priority as a North Fork Senior Connections member to see her hometown have a senior center. Nearly 100 people attended the grand opening. The director for Region 10 Area Agency on Aging surprised the group with a $1,500 donation from the agency and Pioneer Days melodrama players donated $300 to the cause.
