The KVNF news team talked to female journalists, hosts and producers who have been mentors and a source of inspiration for them. Sarah Koenig, Marty Durlin, Bente Birkland, Andrea Chalfin, Phoebe Judge and Susan Loubet are all featured.
Phoebe Judge is the creator and Host of Criminal, a True Crime Podcast. Phoebe has been a friend and inspiration to KVNF's Production Assistant Taya Jae throughout the years. Both women are alumni of Bennington College, which is where they met.
Marty Durlin is known as a pioneer in community radio. During her 20-year stint at the helm of KGNU in Boulder and Denver, she served as Chair of the Pacifica National Board of Directors and the National Federation of Community Broadcasters. She is also Ali Lightfoot's mom.

Susan was Taya Jae's first radio mentor. She inspired her college senior thesis and aided in cultivating her profound love of all things radio.
Bente Birkeland is the capitol coverage beat reporter for the Rocky Mountain Community Radio exchange. She works year round at the state capitol and provides public radio stations with election coverage, reporting on the state legislature and profiles of laws and lawmakers.
Andrea Chalfin hosts morning edition and is the managing editor at KRCC in Colorado Springs. She’s been reporting the news there since 2008. She did an internship with an AM talk radio station in college, then got a Master’s Degree in communications. She is a big fan of NPR and has always been excited to work for public radio.
