After School Art for ages 5-8 in Montrose

After School Art for ages 5-8 in Montrose

Join us for a four-week artistic adventure exploring animals native to Colorado’s Western Slope. Through art, movement, and imaginative play, young artists will learn about local wildlife habitats, movements, and unique traits, then turn their observations into creative expression. Projects include paper-mâché animal masks made from recycled materials, salt-dough animal sculptures, and imaginative critter homes. Each activity encourages creativity, problem-solving, and a deeper connection to the natural world.
Classes also feature movement games, collaborative activities, and guided discussions in a fun, supportive environment that builds confidence and social skills. This program is ideal for curious, hands-on learners who love animals, art, and exploration.

Instructor Emily Knickerbocker is an artist and educator based on Colorado’s Western Slope. Inspired by the region’s mountains, valleys, and deserts, her work centers on natural and repurposed materials and fostering meaningful connections between people and the environment. Emily holds a BA in Art Education from the University of Northern Colorado and has taught in public schools as well as alternative, outdoor-based programs. She currently continues her personal art practice while creating engaging arts education opportunities for youth in Ridgway and Montrose.
