It’s well into December, but it may not seem like it.
Generally speaking, there's been a lack of snow on the Western Slope. Some places like Powderhorn Mountain Resort are hurting because of it. Powderhorn has postponed it's opening date. With only a foot of natural snow and warm evenings preventing snow making, the resort hasn't been able to welcome skiers.
"Well we've had a few early snowstorms that brought a good wet base to many of the mountains," says Chris Cuoco, a senior forecaster with the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, "but since that time we've had several weeks of dry and warmer than normal weather. The snow equivalent and snow cover for all the basins of Western Colorado is bellow average."
He says we should see some snow storms in the next few weeks.
