KVNF Annual Meeting, Election Results Fall 2014

Thursday night, Oct. 9, KVNF held its annual board meeting at Paonia City Hall.

Following the normal business of financial reports and the State of the Station report, the bylaw change was discussed.  Station member Bill Bishop quickly made a point of order, noting that the proposal didn't follow the format required by the station bylaws because it lacked a posted rationale.  He moved to have the proposed change stricken from the ballot.  The board concurred, and the change was dropped.

Following that, the members passionately discussed the consideredchange to KVNF's frequency and power output.  Earlier this year, broadcaster K-Love approached KVNF, asking the station if they would switch their 90.9 broadcast to 91.5.  That move would allow K-Love to boost their 90.7 signal in Montrose.  K-Love would also compensate the station with $50,000.

This plan, which was the impetus for the proposed bylaw change, was being explored by the board.  Member after member voiced their opinion, and strong concerns over the station's history and financial needs were repeatedly voiced.

In the end, station member Bob Pennetta made a motion to cease all discussion and investigation into the endeavor.  The motion was voted on by the members in attendance, and was overwhelmingly passed.  There will be no changes to KVNF's 90.9 frequency or power level.

The membership also elected new board members.  Six people were running for four open positions.  There was one open vacancy, and within the past year three board members have stepped down: Cally Carswell, John Moore, and Michelle Follis.  All three were thanked for their service and dedication.  Michelle Follis is now the Underwriting Representative for KVNF in Montrose.

Judy Briscoe was elected back to the board for three years, Bob Pennetta was elected to the board for three years, Steve Rubick was elected to the board for three years, and Pam Ellison was elected for two years.

After the annual meeting was adjourned the board elected its own officers: President Jay Canode, Vice President Skip Naft, Treasurer Jill Spears, and Secretary Kate Zackman.
