Delta County Public Health to host MMR vaccine clinics

TOP STORY: With measles moving about the country, Delta County Public Health will host a two day measles, mumps and rubella vaccine clinic this Friday and Saturday. You can hear more about the MMR vaccine clinic and what Delta County Public Health and Delta Health Hospital are doing to prepare for a possible measles outbreak in our area tonight at 6 pm on Local Motion, KVNF’s weekly public affairs program.

LOCAL NEWS: The Montrose County Board of County Commissioners has appointed Julie Andress as Interim County Attorney and Leslie Quon as Interim County Manager. The appointments follow the controversial resignations of the former attorney and county manager. Andress has worked with the county since 2014 while Quon has 12 years of experience in local government and 28 years of experience in human resources and strategic planning.

The Town of Hotchkiss has budgeted for some improvements for 2025, according to reporting in the Delta County Independent. The town's public works is roto-milling and paving Cedar between Bridge Street and Hotchkiss Avenue. They are also working to fix an area that had a leak on Highway 92 in the area of Back River Road. The town will need permission from CDOT to bore under the highway.

The town of Ridgway is seeking to condemn a portion of property at 539 Marion Overlook for the purpose of creating a “recreational trail for public use, a pedestrian walking path, jogging path, a recreational biking path, or similar uses.” Before pursuing the action in court, the town attempted to buy the easement from property owner David Sneed. Sneed accused the town of misrepresenting its intentions, calling the condemnation an “attempted land grab.” More on this story can be found at

Three Mesa County Valley School District 51 Board of Education members joined 62 other school board members around Colorado in a letter taking a stance on transgender athletes in girls’ sports, reports the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel. The letter was sent to the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) demanding that the organization immediately adopt rules barring transgender athletes from girls sports statewide, citing “a matter of safety and fairness for our female athletes.” They also cited an executive order signed by President Donald Trump banning trans athletes from girls’ and women’s sports.

STATE LEGISLATIVE NEWS: Colorado Republicans are pushing back on the progressive gun bill signed by Governor Jared Polis, and legislators took a step forward for restorative justice to commemorate the Sand Creek Massacre.
