Robot roaming the streets of Paonia

Robots roaming the streets of Paonia raised a few eyebrows and questions

FEATURE: From higher prices invading our lives due to the ongoing trade war, we turn to the local chatter about mysterious robots in Paonia last week. Many locals complained about the lack of information provided by the town…what’s the scoop? For KVNF Marty Durlin reports.

NEWS: Hotter dryer temperatures mean the possibility of Red Flag Warnings and Fire Weather Watch Days in our listening area. Authorities across the region are urging residents to be aware of these warnings which are often posted on county or emergency management websites. In Colorado, a Red Flag Warning is issued by the National Weather Service when specific weather conditions are met that indicate a high risk of wildfires. These conditions include strong winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures, which can lead to rapid fire spread. Red Flag Warning is issued when there is a high confidence that the following will occur within 24-48 hours: frequent gusts of 25 mph or greater, relative humidity of 15% or less, and dry thunderstorms covering 15% or more of the area. More information on Red Flag Warning days can be found at National Weather Service website.

WATER: President Donald Trump has nominated Ted Cooke to be the next commissioner at the Bureau of Reclamation. As Alex Hager reports for the Mountain West News Bureau, Cooke could become the top federal official working on the Colorado River.

HOUSING: Maintaining affordable housing is a constant battle in Colorado, and one the state is focused on. KVNF's Brody Wilson has more on how the State of Colorado is directing funds for affordable housing on the Western Slope.

BUSINESS: Housing isn’t the only challenge here on the Western Slope. Some businesses in the region are feeling the squeeze from tariffs and trade wars. Everything from construction materials like lumber to steel, household goods, outdoor equipment, and even a cold beer is costing more. For Rocky Mountain Community Radio, K-B-U-T’s Chad Reich has more on what it means for neighboring Gunnison County.
