Peppers & Corn: An Exploration of Indigenous North American Food Crops
This is the 2nd Annual Thistle Whistle & UpRoot "Restoring Food Wisdom" educational event, hosted in collaboration with Colorado State University Extension.
The event will take place on Saturday, May 13th from 1-4pm at Thistle Whistle Farm in Hotchkiss, Colorado
We will learn about:
-Ethnobotanical roots of corn and peppers and how they moved around the world;
-Biology, selection, and cross-pollination of corn and peppers;
-Nixtamalization process of corn for traditional preparations: posole, masa harina, and hominy.
