Homeless Shelter Close To Having Its Own Home

For five years, the Abraham Connection, a homeless shelter in Delta, has been providing overnight stays from November until May.

For those past five years, though, they’ve been in borrowed space.  But it looks like they might get their own building.

"We just were awarded a grant through the Department of Local Affairs," says Cheryl Oeltjenbrunf  who helped start the organization, for $300,000.  It was about 40% of the total funding we needed for the building.  We are within $4,323 of having everything we need, and we'll start construction probably in April, and we will be in our new space come November, 2015."

She hopes that a permanent home will give them the ability to provide more services for the homeless.
