Artist Gregg Deal Talks About His Exhibit 'Merciless Indian Savages' at Ute Museum in Montrose

The Ute Indian Museum in Montrose opened a new art exhibit in September featuring the work of Gregg Deal, titled Merciless Indian Savages. It's a provocative show, an Indigenous exploration of what American democracy means for Indian Country. The show will be up through January. Gregg Deal is a contemporary artist and activist whose work deals with indigenous identity through a pop culture lens. Gavin Dahl spoke with him about the new exhibit in advance of Columbus Day, also known as Indigenous People's Day.

Gavin Dahl is a writer and producer with a passion for community media. He worked for KVNF from July 2020 to July 2022. He won awards and recognition for his KVNF reporting from the Colorado Broadcasters Association and Society of Professional Journalists. His writing has been published by The Montrose Press, The Sopris Sun, Boulder Weekly, Raw Story, Radio Survivor, Boise Weekly, and The Austin American-Statesman. He graduated from The Evergreen State College with a BA in media production and community organizing.
