Community Food Access Program established in 2022 by the Colorado legislature aims to improve access to and lower prices for healthy foods in low-income and underserved areas of the state

FEATURE: On today’s KVNF Farm Friday we learn about a state program aimed to improve access to and lower prices for healthy foods in low-income and underserved areas of the state by supporting small food retailers and ag producers. Senior Reporter Lisa Young talks with Sammie Alteri, Valley Food Partnership.

NEWS: Mark Burns was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of Paonia residents Michael Arnold and Donna Gallegos, reports the Montrose Daily Press. Friends found the two deceased in their Black Bridge Road garage apartment in February of 2022. A Delta jury rendered its verdict late Wednesday following a three week trial. Burns was also charged with two counts of robbery, and one count each of burglary and tampering with physical evidence. He was found guilty on all counts. Sentencing is set for 10 a.m. Monday. First-degree murder carries a mandatory life term.

A permitted uranium project in Utah’s Lisbon Valley is beginning to bring economic activity to Montrose County’s West End. According to a press release from Montrose County, the project could create up to 60 local jobs within the next year. Project developer Anfield Energy is exploring additional opportunities in Montrose County. In his words, County Commissioner Sean Pond says that while it’s “early the project could be part of a broader economic boost for the West End.”

“No Kings” demonstrations are planned in more than 45 communities across Colorado on Saturday to spotlight what organizers call an attack on American democracy by an increasingly authoritarian president. A march protesting the Trump administration is scheduled this Saturday in Paonia. The event kicks off with sign-making and networking sessions prior to speeches in the Park. Participants will then march from the town park to downtown and back beginning around noon. More information can be found at North Fork Indivisible.
