NEWS: The Delta County Independent is reporting the death of former Cedaredge Mayor Richard Udd. According to the San Miguel County Coroner, The former mayor and community champion died unexpectedly in his sleep at his Telluride earlier this week. He was 83 years old.

The unincorporated area of Montrose County issued a Stage 1 fire restriction on Wednesday. According to a press release, extreme fire danger, high temperatures, and worsening dry conditions were the deciding factors in this decision. Under Stage1 restrictions, open burning of any kind, including agricultural burning, open campfires, and fireworks, is prohibited. Smoking cigarettes outdoors is not allowed, unless in an enclosed vehicle or building, or a developed recreation site. Campfires in a pre-approved campground or enclosed fire pits are permitted. Also, fireworks on publicly managed lands are prohibited.
