Grand Mesa Writers' Symposium
The Grand Mesa Writers’ Symposium is a creative sharing and learning event. The symposium features novelist Shelley Read, historian Timothy Winegard, and poet Wendy Videlock as well as several instructive workshops on fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. The symposium begins on Friday, August 8, with a 3:30-5:30 PM meet-and-greet activity in the Grand Mesa Arts & Events Center's ART GARAGE followed by an outdoor concert featuring Sinners and Saints, the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra's spirited ensemble. Workshops begin at 9 AM on Saturday, August 9. Featured writers appear in "A Celebration of Writing" panel from 6:30-7:30 PM. Featured writers include novelist Shelley Read ("Go as a River"); Historian Dr. Timothy Winegard ("The Horse: A Galloping History of Humanity"); and poet Wendy Videlock ("Wise to the West.") Friday events are free. Workshop participation requires pre-registration and ticketing. The public can purchase tickets to the 6:30 PM event. Workshops resume at 9:30 AM on Sunday, August 10, and end at 12:30 PM.
