Learn the benefits of using native plants to create unique ecosystems that naturally thrive in Colorado and how they can contribute to greater health and higher yields in the market garden, orchard or vineyard. We will also cover how to create a lively pollinator-paradise garden that provides food and habitat to butterflies, bees, hummingbirds, moths, and more!Classroom session followed by hands on planting day. Learn from local qarden expert Lance how to create on farm fertility by building exceptional compost. In this hands-on learning experience, Lance will teach us how to create a nutrient rich, productive compost pile with local manure, straw, kitchen scraps & more.
Lance Swigart grows go percent of his food and harvests 100 percent of his seeds from a garden located above 6,000 feet elevation outside Hotchkiss. He has been building his incredibly beautiful garden space for the last 35 years and is a wealth of information about all kinds of gardening, from grains to beans to fruits and vegetables, even nuts. He is also the host of KVNF's local Radio Show "As the Worm Turns" now on Wednesday's at 6pm!

Landscape Design & Installationwith Wind Clearwater and Ivy Hunter

Join us for a workshop celebration to create & install the new garden & outdoor Community Space at the Hearth in downtown Paonia! Focusing on edible and medicinal perennials, drought-tolerant plants, microclimates, water management, and forest gardening, our Design team, Wind and Ivy, will teach Landscape Design Principles as we work together in collaboration during this fun, educational Community Event!
Bring gloves and appropriate clothing for working in the garden!
Wind Clearwater has been observing and learning from the natural world to apply the principles and ethics of permaculture to hundreds of landscapes over the past 30 years, including his home and education center, The Oasis, outside Hotchkiss.
Ivy Hunter is the co-owner of Lush Valley Landscaping in Paonia, a clay artist at Paonia Clayworks, and helps curate and prepare meals for the TLC Kitchen.

Learn how to turn milk into cheese! Discussion on raising dairy animals, types of cheese, different cultures, aged cheeses, sanitation, equipment, & more. Sample local cheeses made by local cheesemakers and gain hands-on cheesemaking experience.
Suanne is the co-owner and cheesemaker at Western Culture Farmstead, a goat micro-dairy in Paonia.
Mark has been raising goats and making cheese on his diversified family farm for over I5 years in Hotchkiss.
Emily has been raising dairy goats and turning their milk into cheese and yogurt for I5 years on her farm in Paonia.

Learn about our midsummer herbal plant allies and how they can nourish us throughout the year. We will explore our relationship with motherwort, comfrey, St. Joan's wort, calendula, oats, red clover, nettle, dandelion, and more. We will learn how to make tinctures, infused herbal vinegars & oils, nourishing herbal infusions, dry herbs and create herbal medicines to embrace the nourishing plants of the summer sun that will warm us through the winter.
Alicia has been teaching herbalism and working with local plants and home remedies for over 25 years. She cultivates medicinal herbs at her gardens in Crawford and Paonia.
Emily has been working with plants, herbs and livestock for over 20 years in Paonia at her farm Goats Gone Wild.
Matt is the farmer at Grey Owl Garden and has been growing medicinal herbs and making plant medicine for over 20 years in Alaska and Paonia.

Introduction to Block PrintingCarve a block of your own design and print it!
This introductory workshop will teach you how to design and carve your own small blocks for printing onto archival paper using simple tools such as a baren, or a wooden spoon. The inks will be water based and archival.
Bonus: A hand press called a Woodzilla will be available for your use to collaborate and print with.
All supplies, tools, inks, and paper will be provided.Walk-ins accepted if there are available spaces
