The crisis created a state of emergency for the town’s 1,400 residents and associated water companies.

  • Last Saturday, Lisa Young joined the holiday festivities at Crossroads Senior Living in Delta. It was a special time for residents, staff and their families to enjoy time together around brightly decorated tables for a special meal and conversation. On Monday, Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet urged his colleagues to act on the agricultural workforce labor crisis affecting family farms and ranches in Colorado and across the nation. Federal climate experts published an interactive map looking at the probabilities of where it might be snowing–or not–on Christmas Day. Coloradans can now testify before lawmakers without hours of travel or leaving the comfort of their homes.
  • A Montrose man is accused of fatally shooting an older man at a Sherwood Drive home early on Monday, reported the Montrose Daily Press. Elijah James Johnson, 25, is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder in the death of a 59-year-old man. Montrose County School District elementary schools now have a set of student bikes, along with teacher bikes and helmets, according to the district. Delta police encouraged community members to begin a neighborhood watch in a town hall earlier this month, reports the Delta County Independent.
  • Megan Hess and Shirley Koch, co-owners of Sunset Mesa Funeral Directors and Donor Services, intend to appeal their prison terms imposed on them for mail fraud in U.S District Court, reports the Montrose Daily Press. The City of Montrose will go to a Single-Stream Recycling Program effective immediately. The change will limit the type of recyclable plastics that are accepted. The city will collect only plastic items marked with 1, 2, 4, and 5 recycling symbols. Vehicles are cutting the lives of animals short as they move across roadways, however, researchers have found one possible solution help them live longer.
  • For decades the town of Paonia struggled to maintain its complex water system. In February 2019 the town ran completely dry in what state and federal agencies called a "perfect storm." Following the water crisis, a number of Paonia citizens decided to take matters into their own hands.
