Local Motion: 3 Women Doing Public Service Media

Clara Pena

This week on Local Motion, Gavin Dahl interviews three women doing public service media work in Colorado, photojournalist and educator Abby Harrison, Ouray County Plaindealer reporter Liz Teitz, and KGNU news director Shannon Young.

Photojournalist and educator Abby Harrison runs a visual storytelling workshop at Paonia High School. Now she's raising funds to offer teen photojournalism storytelling workshops through The Learning Council. Liz Teitz, reporter at the Ouray County Plaindealer, reflects on the conclusion of her first year as a Report for America fellow, shares the good news that she is sticking around at the award-winning newspaper for another year, and touts the paper's new email newsletter. Shannon Young, the new director of news and public affairs at our partner station KGNU in Boulder, just moved there from Oaxaca, Mexico where she spent many years as a foreign correspondent. She is a big addition to the talent and expertise in our Rocky Mountain Community Radio coalition.

Gavin Dahl is a writer and producer with a passion for community media. He worked for KVNF from July 2020 to July 2022.
