  • KVNF recently spoke with Tressa Guynes, the clerk and recorder for Montrose County, on how voter turnout is typically lower in city and county elections. In the upcoming November 7 election in Ouray County, voters will decide on a Ridgway lodging tax increase. The Montrose County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation conducted a three-day search in Nucla based on a tip related to a missing persons case dating back to 1999. Avery MacCracken, a San Miguel County resident, pled guilty to one felony count of obstructing law enforcement officers during the January 6, 2021 breach of the U.S. Capitol. Four people are under arrest for allegedly stealing and exporting over $1 million dollars of dinosaur bones from public lands in Southeastern Utah.

  • Family members of several victims of the body brokering scam conducted by Sunset Mesa Funeral Directors in Montrose met last Friday at Confluence Park. They gathered to release materials they received from the now-defunct funeral home. Montrose High School celebrated homecoming with an exciting football victory, defeating Lutheran 36-14.
  • Recent state funding is set to address homelessness in Montrose and Delta counties. Paonia secured a right-of-way access from a small property owned by the Delta County School District. Magic Circle Player's production of Little Shop of Horrors kicks off this Friday. The Republican primary race for Congressional District 3 is taking shape.
  • School board seats are up for grabs in next month’s coordinated election, including in Montrose. Two student representatives in Montrose say their peers are concerned about a number of things, from limited college fair representation and the removal of shortened Wednesday schedules. Keep it Colorado, a conservation group working with local land trusts, has received an additional $1 million grant from Great Outdoors Colorado to protect farmlands and other privately-owned lands from future development.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife has secured a one-year agreement with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for the reintroduction of up to 10 gray wolves, beginning in December.
