  • The first annual Delta Pride celebration held at Cleland Park last Saturday was filled with anticipation, excitement and raw emotions. Paonia’s Town Clerk resigned following months of criticism, reports the Delta County Independent. Corinne Ferguson, who also served as town administrator, said she will depart at the end of the year. As the Colorado River dries up, our region is searching for ways to prop up to the water supply. Some are looking to the ocean.

The Colorado Secretary of State’s Office is investigating whether Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario broke campaign finance laws by using public resources to support U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert. Delta-Montrose Electric Association will conduct aerial line inspections across its service area next Wednesday. Citizens may see and hear the low flying helicopter during the inspection process.

  • Montrose will host its first Culture Fest celebrating its diverse community. The event will be held this Saturday at The Ute Indian Museum. Mountain Harvest Festival kicks off today in Paonia beginning at six o’clock with Harvest of Voices at the Blue Sage Center. The fall time event wraps up on Sunday at four o’clock in the town park. Traveling to fall festivals in an electric car just got easier, as the Biden Administration recently approved 35 state electric vehicle plans–five of which are in our region.

  • Delta-Montrose Electric Association and Elevate will provide free internet service to qualifying families in Montrose County School District, reports the Montrose Daily Press. The service is available to students who receive free and reduced lunch. Sales activity held steady for the town of Ouray during August. Sales tax revenue for August is up nearly 55% over August 2019. Two tax-related measures are on Colorado ballots this year.State ballot Proposition 121 asks voters if they would like to decrease the state income tax rate while, Prop GG would add a table to all income tax-related ballot measures in an effort to clarify how tax measures will affect different socioeconomic groups.
  • Over the summer, the invasive Japanese Beetle was detected in Grand Junction. The adult beetle feeds on more than 300 species of plants including those that are a major part of Western Slope's agricultural economy such as sweet corn, peaches, and grapes. The invasive insect already plagues some communities on the Front Range.
