  • The Colorado Department of Transportation has closed a bridge on US Highway 50 west of Gunnison. The Federal Highway Administration requested the bridge closure after an inspection on Thursday identified defects in the structure.The closure is in place between US Hwy 50 Mile Point 131 which is the intersection with Colorado Highway 92 and MP 138. Local traffic will be allowed through the closure point to reach residences.
  • Representatives from western Colorado’s North Fork Valley recently returned from another lobbying trip to Washington DC. Each year the Colorado Farm & Food Alliance, Western Slope Conservation Center and the Valley Organic Growers Association sends a delegation to the nation’s capital to discuss issues impacting the Western Slope.

  • The criminal trial against Tina Peters, former clerk for Mesa County, has been postponed, reports the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel. The delay came after Peters fired her second set of attorneys last week. This is the second time the trial has been delayed. Peters faces numerous felony charges stemming from alleged election misconduct in 2020. A new trial date is set for July 31.
  • The recent closure of Integrated Insight Community Care came as a shock to nearly one hundred employees and its growing client population on the Western Slope. Over the past year, the multi-county behavioral health provider’s CEO Joel Watts came under scrutiny with the Department of Health Care Policy & Financing regarding numerous allegations over patient safety at the clinics.
  • A new traffic signal at the Montrose Regional Airport is in the works, reports the Montrose Daily Press. The signal will help control traffic coming onto and off of North Townsend Avenue. Currently, travelers heading south from the airport have to turn left across four lanes of traffic on U.S. 50 heading into Montrose.
