Western Slope Conservation Center

  • Last month, High Country News, Paonia Books, and KVNF hosted a panel discussion about Building Durable Conservation in Colorado and the West. It was an intimate evening at the Blue Sage Center for the Arts. KVNF's Brody Wilson reported on the one day event held in Paonia, Colorado.

  • The Western Slope Conservation Center (WSCC) has had some recent conservation efforts come to fruition. Executive director Hannah Stevens talks about those efforts. She will be part of a panel discussion about how people in Colorado and across the West are working together to safeguard landscapes and wildlife.
  • Colorado Attorney General Weiser made a stop in Ridgway on Wednesday to hold a community conversation on the challenges and opportunities related to affordable housing in southwestern Colorado and to hear the experiences of Ouray County families and surrounding communities. KVNF’s Lisa Young spoke with the Attorney General following his visit to Ridgway.
  • Over one hundred third graders from Delta County Schools enjoyed this year’s 13th Annual Western Slope Conservation Center’s Conservation Day held on May 2nd at the Paonia River Park.
  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife confirmed reports of wolf depredation in Grand County earlier this week. A landowner, whose name and property location are not being released by CPW, called wildlife officers to report a dead calf. Officers conducted a field investigation, and confirmed a wolf-livestock depredation had occurred.

  • The Nature Connection and Western Slope Conservation Center are teaming up to repair damage on the Paonia River Park trails due to flooding this spring. KVNF’s Lisa Young reports.
  • The City of Delta will continue to improve its main street thanks to a $13 million dollar grant from the federal government. The Western Slope Conservation Center is working to raise donations to rebuild several washed sections of the Paonia River Park and K-8 trail system. The City of Delta wrapped up its first inaugural 4th of July Western Sky Balloon Festival held over the long holiday weekend.
  • Today on Local Motion we take a look at a collaborative effort between the Nature Connection and the Western Slope Conservation Center to sponsor a Youth Trail Crew, young people who spend their summers maintaining the trail systems throughout the West Elks and Raggeds Wilderness. Taya Jae is joined by the young people on this crew and by Ben Grave of the Nature Connection, and Ben Katz of the Western Slope Conservation who join her to talk about the collaborative efforts behind this program – and what they believe is the importance of facilitating this type of work.
