Conservation Days is an annual event hosted by the Western Slope Conservation Center at the Paonia River Park. The two-day event each spring brings third-grade students throughout Delta County out of their classrooms and into nature for a multidisciplinary hands-on environmental education experience at Paonia River Park.
Throughout the years WSCC has consistently heard from teachers that they need three things to educate their students about the environment and conservation: opportunities to bring kids outside, materials to help kids observe their natural environment, and experts to teach kids about local conservation issues. We organized Conservation Days to meet all of these needs at once.
Up to ten structured learning stations, managed by local environmental educators, artists, and regional conservation experts, will be set up at the Paonia River Park to engage students in a day-long immersion in fun and creative activities to experience and learn about nature and conservation.
For safety and liability reasons, the River Park will be closed to the public May 15th and 16th from 8am to 3pm. To volunteer at this event, reach out to info@theconservationcenter.org for more information!

Meet Your Instructor: Liz Evans
Bodyworker & Core Transformation Fitness InstructorLiz Evans has been a bodyworker since 1999. She owns and operates Wellspring Vitality Wellness Center in Hotchkiss. She has six wonderful adult children whom she homeschooled. Liz has taught fitness to groups of kids for over 20 years and has been teaching her own brand of core training, Core Transformation, since 2014. She will do anything–really, anything it takes–to make sure that her students walk away with the tools they need to succeed.
Core Transformation takes elements from yoga and pilates and then adds in Callanetics- a system of deep muscle contraction and deep body awareness. Core Transformation is continually evolving and will teach you things that you can apply all day, every day like Core Walking, breathwork, and restorative movement strategies that will keep your body out of pain and feeling lithe, graceful and supple.
